Floods in Preah Vihear Affect More Than 500 Houses and More Than 3000 Hectares of Rice

PREAH VIHEAR: 503 houses in Preah Vihear province, housing 2,144 families, and more than 3000 hectares of rice fields were affected by floods, of which nearly 500 hectares were damaged. This is according to a report from the Disaster Management Committee received from Spokesperson Soth Kimkol Mony.

As of Friday, 6 October, the water level of Stung Sen river at the reservoir's construction site was recorded at 46.92 meters.

A Spokesperson for the Disaster Management Committee confirmed that the floods in Preah Vihear province affected eight districts and 20 communes, affecting 2,144 families, of which 110 were evacuated from the area. 503 houses were affected, while six were destroyed. 3,490 hectares of rice fields were affected, while 499 hectares of rice fields were completely damaged. Additionally, 13,060 meters of rural roads were also affected by the floods.

According to the Spokesperson, such floods have impacted Preah Vihear province from May to early October.

On 5 October, the Governor of Preah Vihear Province, Kim Rithy, along with other relevant officials, visited the flood-affected areas and brought donations from the Royal Government to the affected people. Donations include 25 kg of rice, one tent, one box of noodles, one package of bean curd, one bottle of soy sauce, and five cans of fish.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, from 5-11 October 2022, the rain will continue to fall across the country, mixed with thunder, lightning, and gusts of wind.

The Ministry of Water Resources has called on local authorities and residents to remain vigilant against any possible natural phenomena.
